Self Portrait
"Self Portrait" is inspired by my family's complex migration journey, spanning from Africa to Jamaica, then to Costa Rica, and finally to the United States. As a first-generation American, an Afro-Latina, and a proud citizen of Costa Rica, I navigate the intricate tapestry of my identity, celebrating black joy and the multifaceted nature of self-discovery. Migration is not merely a physical relocation but a profound existential shift, echoing through generations and redefining the self in countless ways. This work captures the essence of black joy and the beauty of identification amidst the layers of my heritage.
