I Know My Worth
“I Know My Worth” is about confidence despite adversity. The beautiful smile is evidence that no one can define who we are unless we let them. So many times interactions with law enforcement, participating in the educational system, and even with the everyday pubic, Black boys are stereotyped. They are labeled trouble and seen in a negative light without any evidence. This quilt is a reminder that I define who I am.
This art quilt was inspired by a photo of a smiling boy. I used cotton fabrics, cotton and metallic threads, gold braid, and black and gold embellishments. It is raw-edge appliquéd and machine quilted.
