Shirley Tucker

Shirley Tucker is a professional artist who specializes in graphic design, acrylic oil paintings, and murals. Tucker grew up in Dayton and graduated from High School in 1982, where she had become interested in art. Shirley earned her Associates of Arts Degree in 1984 from Rio Grande College, studied graphic design at Bowling Green State University, and in 1989 earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Wright State University. 

Shirley served as the head facilitator of the Montgomery County Juvenile Court art program Helping Adolescent Achieve Long-term Objectives (HAALO), and the Court Saturday Art Group (SAG). Their work has appeared across the Dayton region in over 20 murals painted on building exteriors and at local community centers. Artist and longtime (now retired) officer of the Montgomery County Juvenile Court Probation Services, continues to create artwork alongside young people enmeshed in the system. Tucker was honored for her work with an Ohio Senate Citation from Sen. Stephen A. Huffman and has been featured in both the Dayton Weekly, and the Dayton Daily News.

Shirley recently received a Proclamation from the Miami Township Board of Trustees for the Canvas Mural Project at the Dayton Mall.

Statement

My goal in life is to paint and create artwork that I can share with others, in doing so creating my own emotional interpretations of art from themes of my life experiences.
